Over the past four years, Shaylan has directed his passion for fashion design into an annual Charity Art and Fashion Show. He organized and hosted the first show during his freshman year of high school, with the intent of creating a platform for the visual arts that would allow him to tackle issues of diversity and educational equity.
Every year, Shaylan recruits student designers of varying backgrounds from within his school and around the Lehigh Valley to present mini collections alongside his own. Hair and makeup services are provided by cosmetology students from local Vocational Technical Schools in exchange for community service hours, and a student from Shaylan's class deejays the event. An art show featuring over 200 pieces of student artwork follows the fashion show, and is curated by the school's art and photography teacher.
The show has raised over $4,000 since its inception, and all proceeds have benefitted Lehigh Valley Summerbridge, which is a local charity that works with Shaylan's high school to provide educational resources to low-income students in the Lehigh Valley.
